Cannot believe my life is getting more and more boring by the day. There is cmopletely nothing to do now. Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you, absolutely NOTHING happening in my life. The most interesting stuff is probably mugging, and how interesting can that be. (By saying this, I am, of course, assuming that you are a normal student in NUS and not some stinky P** who derives life's pleasure from psychotic mugging) I know you are probably thinking that I am some stupid racist that serves to undermine the social and political stability, especially in a multi-racial country like Singapore, since racial harmony is, without doubt, very fabric which our social and economic prosperity is built on. If you are really thinking this way, then you really dunno me, and hence, you should just piss off and stop reading this blog. I do have P** friends ok, esp those soccer friends in hall. They are really nice pple and vv easy to get along with. It is just an unfortunate consequence that the vast majority of them mugs so darn hard and screw the whole bell curve thingy up. And I really got a surpirse when I heard Xinghua said the other day. Cos if you are in NUS and not in medicine, dentistry or FASS, you should know that these P** normally has an average CAP of at least 4.4 and above right? That day we were asking XH wda his CAP was and were expecting something like 4.2 at least. Guess wad he said... ... ... I forgot the exact number, but it was less than 3.0 Can you believe that?? P** having a CAP of less than 4.0. I think if he was studying back in China, this would warrent a death sentence and he would long been shot or something, since apparently u can get shot for farting loud in public. Haha...

Seriously I dun think we should judge a person by his/her CAP score and/or his/her academic results. Being able to study does not mean you are smart. Similarly, screwing your grades up does not mean that you are a dumbass. Y do I say this?? Throughout my studying life, I have met countless pple who really pass all tests and exams with flying colours, but when it comes to stuff that you cannot learn from the books i.e inter-personal relationship, helping others, selflessness etc, these pple suck big. And these are the things that personally I think are the determinants to success compared to academic reuslts. You can only study for the most the first 24 yrs of your life. After that, you are going to be thrown to the society, where you have to fend for yourself, earn your every cent, stand up for yourself, build up your network of friends whom you will make to help you achieve success, whichever way you define it... From how I see it, studying well does not help at all in the above process. Good grades may affect the way pple, like your potential employers, look at you, may affect your chances of being employed etc, but once you are on the job, you can dump your cert in the bin. That's it. No more use for it anymore! I have this friend in chem engin, my JC classmate. K I admit he is smart. He is from GEP in sec sch, and from the way he talks, nobody in this whole world would call him dumb. His results are not really excellent, just above average. However, he is good, or should I say, excellent, at forming networks and building bonds etc. Pple feel close and comfortable with him, and he knows wad he wants in life. He is only year 1 now in NUS, but has already set up a company outside and is raking in an average of 2.5K monthly. Nice huh. This is wad I call success, and he is wad I call smart. CAP 5? So wad??!! Go eat shit and die if u wanna brag.

Oh, all the shit and I have not touched on the highlight of today. Cannot believe this is the highlight... Even typing it out makes me feel so embarrassed. Highlight was consultation with my quantum mechanics professor this noon. Ya ya, I know. To many pple, consultations are just boring sessions when you get your ques answered and you get the model answers and you are assured that you know everything that you ought to know and yada yada... But consultation with dag is awesome. There is this large group of us looking for him today, in the quantum information lab, for some last min revision, given that our exam is next tue and mon is a public hol, so basically today is the last chance that we get to ask him any ques that we have about his mod. Of course he goes throught he mundane process of answering our ques, giving us solutions and ... However, in the end, I dunno wad sparked it off, but he started bitching about taxi drivers in Singapore as the worst thing on this sunny island. He drives (obviously! Which professor doesnt??) And he was bitching about taxi drivers horning him everytime at traffic light, even when the light is red and just going to turn green. And he gave a vv interesting physical analysis of how it is. Here goes. Now let's say the car is stationary and there is no red-shift of the traffic light. So everyone should see the same colour right?? Let's assume the car is about 3m from the light. Since light travels at an estimated 3x10^8 m/s, it would take approx 10ns for light to reach the driver, so his reaction time is limited by this speed of light. So, apparently he claims that the reaction time of taxi drivers are faster than 10ns. How can that be?!! Well, the reason he gives is, these taxi drivers dun actually see the peak of the wave envelope, that travels at Vgrp = 3x10^8m/s. They can actually see the individual waves that make up the packet, that apparently travels faster than c. Hence, they can see the light turning green before it actually appears green to pple like you and me i.e non-taxi drivers. Haha, interesting right? On top of that, he also gives an analysis of y pple beat red light. In the frame of reference of the driver who will beat the light, the traffic light is moving towards him. Hence it will be blue-shifted in a way that the red light actually appears green!!! So it is a problem of different frame of reference, not because the driver refuses to stop. It is just that he cannot see the red light that mandates him to stop. Haha, super funny guy. Though I screw QM up, I totally love him... CHEERS DAG!
